What is National Simultaneous Storytime?

A colourful and fun event that celebrates and promotes the value of reading and literacy

A time when a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around Australia

Who organises National Simultaneous Storytime?

National Simultaneous Storytime is organised by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA).

When is National Simultaneous Storytime?

At the same time every year!

Wednesday 23 May at 11am (although at MPS our event will take place after recess at 11:20am).

National Simultaneous Storytime is held as a part of Library and Information Week.

Last year, in 2011, over 170,000 children at over 1,100 locations across Australia took part in National Simultaneous Storytime, reading the book Feathers for Phoebe, written by Rod Clement.

What will be happening this year?

The book chosen for this year is The Very Cranky Bear by Nick Bland.
